OUR STORY
TUSICA is the the first soap and detergent company in northern Colombia, founded in 1905. With 120 years in the domestic and international market, has been transformed over time, managing to adapt to constant changes and even more recently the globalization of markets.

The Hanseática company is recognized for being a pioneer in the manufacture and marketing of cleaning and personal hygiene products.

The Hanseatic Company deployed steamboats on the Magdalena River to speed up soap and candle deliveries nationwide

The Germans Walter Ritzel and Werner Backhaus immigrated to Colombia through the Puerto Colombia Pier in the early 1920s, joining the Hanseatic company as employees at its soap and candle manufacturing plant, La Luz X, before later becoming partners.

The company moved from its original premises on the banks of the Ahuyama Canal in downtown Barranquilla to its current headquarters in the northern industrial zone on Vía 40.

The Tusica company is born: acronym that comes from the German regions of the Ritzel and Backhaus partners: TU (ringia), SI (lecia), and CA (Colombia).

Tusica continued its traditional mold soap production from its very beginnings in the new premises, using fine raw materials and selling the Tusica Green Bar all over the country by shipping it in wooden boxes across the Magdalena River in steamboats.

We introduced a fine powder soap under the brand ISI for the new laundry machines which was a new technology during those days.

The traditional method of making soap in mold was superseded by the current vacuum plant to improve quality and productivity.

Jabonería Tusica begins to record losses, and banks close the possibility of accessing loans.

Tusica begins a recovery process that continues to grow the company today. We started to diversify our portfolio to a new trend of cleaning and sanitizing products that were mandatory for the food division, so we have launched specialized formulas to meet every type of industry, like bottling, dairy, poultry, tuna plants among many others.

Tusica Soap Factory makes a long term investment on its infrastructure modernization.

We finalized the cosmetic manufacturing plant and accomplished both the Invima certification to provide to the global market the finest liquid body soaps for both retail and hotels.

Reaching 120 years of uninterrupted operations, Tusica is one of the oldest soap and detergent companies in Colombia. Today, we offer a comprehensive portfolio for all industries that require quality cleaning results. This includes household laundry detergents, body soaps for skin care, and specialized solutions for the food industry, on-premise laundry at hospitals and hotels, and degreasers for maintenance workshops in the metal-mechanic, seaport, and mining sectors.
